A DEVELON DX140RDM-7 demolition excavator has played a key role in the controlled demolition of a 19th-century tuff building in the center of Caserta, Italy, just steps from the Royal Palace of Caserta.
The challenging project was carried out by Ecorif Srl, a Campania-based demolition specialist, in a densely built-up urban area surrounded by occupied buildings. The approximately 15-metre-high structure was demolished to make way for a new residential complex comprising 24 housing units.
Supplied by DEVELON, importer and distributor Edilnoleggi, the DX140RDM-7 was selected for its compact dimensions, stability and ability to operate in confined spaces. Its variable-width undercarriage can retract to 2.5 metres for transport and access before extending to 3.7 metres for greater stability during demolition.
Working with a demolition grapple, the excavator allowed Ecorif’s operator to dismantle the fragile tuff structure progressively and with a high degree of precision. The machine can reach a maximum working height of 16 metres and handle demolition attachments weighing up to 1,450 kg at the boom tip.
The demolition was completed in just over a month and incorporated a circular approach: the resulting material was transported to a crushing plant operated by DIAF Srl, where it was processed into aggregates for use in construction.
