G11 – Urban Regeneration
Recent years have seen a decline in the social perception of demolition. Public opinion perceives it as a destructive and aggressive activity towards the environment.
For this reason, EDA wants to produce a guide on ‘Urban regeneration and carbon footprint of demolition’ to explain that demolition is the mechanism that enables urban regeneration and reduces the carbon footprint. This will help change the public’s perception of demolition as a useful and essential activity.
The guide will be divided into 3 parts: an introductory part explaining urban regeneration and how demolition is necessary for it; a second part analysing the impacts of demolition on sustainability; and a third part discussing embodied carbon, demonstrating that recycling and reuse of demolition materials generate valuable resources with a lower environmental footprint.
The document will demonstrate that demolition is essential to urban regeneration and to achieve the objectives of a circular economy. As well as demonstrating the industry’s commitment to sustainability, which is aware of the KPIs it must achieve to be sustainable.
The group will be coordinated by Ms Anaïs Terbeche from SEDDRe (France).
