The accreditation of construction companies in France is given by QUALIBAT, an organism connected to the Construction Ministry.

The aim of QUALIBAT is to provide assessment of activities and business skills in the field of the construction, and the maximum information about different companies in an objective and fair way.

There are three types of documentation required by QUALIBAT: administrative and legislative, technique and financial, which must be given by the companies interested in the accreditation.

QUALIBAT is based in a nomenclature in order to give the qualification, where are listed 51 trades or construction activities in the work of nine functional families; in fact, it has 233 specialties and currently includes about 454 possibilities of qualifications and certifications for each of them.

Each qualification is identified by a four-digit code:

  • First digit indicates one of the 9 main functional families in work of classical decomposition of a building.
  • The second digit determines the trade or business.
  • The third digit indicates the technique used.
  • Fourth digit indicates the level of technical mastery.

Nearly 33,000 companies of all sizes and in all specialties (except electricity) are now holding a certificate QUALIBAT.
