
The National Federation of Demolition Contractors, NFDC, celebrated its 2015 Convention from 4th to 7th of September in the Slieve Donard Resort & Spa, in Newcastle, County Down, Northern Ireland.
This year, the Convention was sponsored by SANDVIK, with their generous support guests were treated to an extraordinary Irish themed weekend, and spoilt with luxurious gifts.
The event was very well attended with members from England, Scotland and Northern Ireland who all made the journey to participate in Convention that was the first during President Martin Wilson’s reign.
The President of the National Demolition Association, NDA, Mr. Peter Banks, and the President of the Institute of Demolition Engineers, IDE, Mr. Duncan Rudall, also joined the NFDC for the weekend
The weekends’ events commenced with the annual Claude Brown Golf Competition played on the world famous Royal County Down Golf Course on the Friday morning.
With the non-golfing parties arriving later in the day, the Friday evening saw the guests enjoying welcome drinks before dinner with traditional folk music accompaniment from Toonta.
Saturday morning soon arrived, in which we saw demolition professionals depart for the SANDVIK factory in Ballygawley for the morning’s business meeting and factory tour.
NFDC President Mr. Martin Wilson opened the morning’s meeting welcoming everyone to Northern Ireland.
Martin informed the floor of the achievements the NFDC have gained so far this year and future plans he has for the NFDC in order to develop and make improvements to the industry.
Other speakers included: NFDC CEO Mr. Howard Button, the Marketing and PR Executive, Ms. Louise Calam informed delegates of marketing opportunities for members.
Saturday evening’s Gala Dinner took place with a drinks reception and fine Irish cuisine
After the thrilling Gala Dinner, a very relaxed and enjoyable schedule followed for the final day on Sunday with a trip around the glorious Mourne Mountains and Silent Valley.
