The European Commission has been working for some time in several proposals to modify the current legislation regarding waste management.
The legislative proposals amend the following following legal acts:
- Waste Framework Directive
- Landfill Directive
- Packaging Directive
- Directives on end-of-life vehicles, batteries and accumulators, and waste electrical and electronic equipment
These proposals introduce new waste-management targets regarding reuse, recycling and landfilling, strengthen provisions on waste prevention and extended producer responsibility, and streamline definitions, reporting obligations and calculation methods for targets.
The legislative proposals will be submitted for a vote in plenary in spring 2018.
