Potsdam Trip: Beauty and history

Friday, June 15th (Meeting for departure in the Hotel Lobby at 9:30)

Postdam is a remarkable city very near to Berlin, and part of UNESCO World Heritage, and a must if you plan to spend a few days in Germany.

Experience history from the past to the present and enjoy the unique landscape and atmosphere.

Potsdam is the capital city of the German federal state of Brandenburg, situated on the River Havel, 24 km southwest of Berlin city center.

Potsdam was the residence of the Prussian kings and German Kaisers, until 1918.

Around the city there are a series of interconnected lakes and unique cultural landmarks, in particular the parks and palaces of Sanssouci, the largest World Heritage Site in Germany.

Visit the most famous castle in the park Sanssouci and also the New Garden with the newly restored and reopened Belvedere palace located in the former KGB quarter.

We will have lunch at the historical site of Cecilienhof Palace, where the Potsdam Agreement was signed by Truman, Stalin and Atlee in 1945, the major post-World War II conference held between the victorious Allies.

Gala Dinner at the magnificent Meistersaal

Friday, June 15th (Meeting for departure in the Hotel Lobby at 19:00)

This year, Berlin Meistersaal will provide the delightful framework for EDA traditional Gala Dinner.

For 100 years the Meistersaal embodies the powerful tension between tradition and modernity.
A wide range of major artists like Kurt
Tucholsky, David Bowie or U2 have drawn inspiration from its unique atmosphere.

During the Roaring Twenties, the Meistersaal became a hub for some of the greatest artists of the time, not least because of its distinctive flair and particular suitability for musical performances of all kind.

The ballroom stage will this time see the performance of some nice live music, which will delight each guest and will create for sure an ideal atmosphere for chat, fun and dance.

Enjoy the best views of Berlin from the deck of a boat

Saturday, June 16th. (Meeting for departure in the Hotel Lobby at 13:00)

This magnificent promenade is one of the leisure activities programmed to discover the convention host city from the River Spree.

There is no more beautiful way to discover Berlin than from the deck of a boat, and during a four-hour promenade, you will flow through the city centre, admiring Berlin’s famous sights.

While enjoying the best views of Berlin, you will enjoy as well a delicious buffet lunch onboard. Get a bit of the fabled “Berlin air” – as the locals refer to the city’s particular spirit of openness and freedom – as you discover the capital at its most beautiful.

Dinner at Alte Pumpe

Saturday, June 16th. (Meeting for departure in the Hotel Lobby at 19:00; the restaurant is 5 minutes walking away).

Alte Pumpe is a unique restaurant with typical food of Berlin.

The restaurant provides a spectacular ambience and atmosphere, so take your seat next to the boilers and driving wheels of a 130 years old imposing engine; relax and indulge where the indefatigable workings of Victorian machinery have been replaced by an equally indefatigable staff.

The gigantic diesel aggregate stands still today, but your heart will beat higher in the face of this dinosaur from the age of the industrial revolution…
