EDA Annual Convention 2023: this is how it went
21/06/2023

The European Demolition Association, EDA, began the summer with a new edition of its event: the EDA 2023 Annual Convention.
This time, the host city was Amsterdam, which welcomed more than 200 participants from all around Europe on June 15, 16 and 17.
This event was organized in collaboration with the European Decontamination Institute, EDI, as well as the Dutch demolition association, VERAS.
Starting strong from the first day
As always, EDA pulled out all the stops in terms of activities. It allowed its participants to take part in conferences, lectures and round tables on the industry’s most important topics. Starting on Thursday morning, the convention kicked off with a special activity: a workshop on nuclear decommissioning. It counted on the presence of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
This was followed by the professional program of the convention, where three conferences were held with a cross-cutting theme: the environmental impact of the demolition industry. EDA members then attended the General Assembly, one of the most important meetings of the association. They discussed the association’s key issues, such as its current status and future projects.
To end the day on a high note – not only in the metaphorical but also in the literal sense – a welcome cocktail was held. It took place in the SkyBar of the Corendon Hotel, the event’s main venue, where guests could chat and form closer connections under the starry Dutch sky.
An event full of activities and surprises
Friday arrived, the most intense day of the convention. Four conference sessions with three lectures each, filled with tough debates, discussions, presentations and case studies; an excellent atmosphere, supported by the presence of the exhibition hall. There, guests had the opportunity to take networking further, elevating it to a European level.
Finally, the evening arrived, and with it – the gala dinner. The Amsterdam Maritime Museum was the perfect place to host this event, with its magical breathtaking atmosphere.
During the Gala Dinner, something very special took place as well. Marc Berbée, the current CEO of DEHACO, has granted his father, Frank Berbée, a medal of the EDA Club of Honour. Accompanied by a speech, this emotional moment has become a highlight of the evening.
Saturday, as usual, was a day of rest and relaxation – and what better occasion than the leisure program? A guided tour of the Dutch capital was a perfect closing to such a unique event as the EDA Annual Convention.
