Johan D’Hooghe, on behalf of the European Demolition Association (EDA), participated in the working group ‘Design for Deconstruction and Durability of Buildings’, on 14 March, organized by European Commission to promote that resources can be economically recovered and reused at the end of a building’s life span.

The group works to get a successful implementation of circular economy in order to achieve less construction and demolition waste in the future, improving the design and construction plan of buildings from the beginning.

The goal is to reduce the environmental impacts of resources throughout the full life cycle, taking steps from the beginning rather than at the end of the process.

Making building circular would eventually mean that no construction material would ever become construction waste without reintegration into the construction value chain.
