Organized by the Construction Product Europe, the European Demolition Association was represented at the meeting by Mr Søren Refsgaard from EDA Environmental working group and Ms. Lucía Delgado from EDA Secretariat.

Held in November, 22, in Brussels, Belgium, the workshop included detailed presentations by the project leaders and Commission officials and also a debate, where participants looked into the project recommendations and the approach of industry.

These presetations were:

  • EU pre-demolition audit & construction and demolition waste management protocol, Antonio Paparella – Socio-economic analyst – DG GROW, European Commission
  • EU Resource Efficient Buildings, Mr. Josefina Lindblom – Policy Officer – DG ENVI, European Commission
  • Resource efficient use of mixed waste, Mr. Gunther Wolff – Policy Officer – DG ENVI, European Commission
  • Holistic innovative solutions for an efficient recycling and recovery of valuable raw materials from complex construction and demolition waste (HISER) – Horizon 2020 project, Ms. Amaia Lisbona – Project Coordinator – TECNALIA Research & Innovation
  • Buildings as material banks (BAMB), Ms. Caroline Henrotay – Project Manager – Brussels Environnement (IBGE)
  • Fostering industrial symbiosis for a sustainable resource intensive industry across the extended construction value chain (FISSAC) – Horizon 2020 project, Ms. Fiona Craddock – Project Officer – ACR+

In recent months, the European Commission and European Parliament have financed numerous initiatives on or around the topic of resource efficiency in the construction industry, more particularly looking at waste and recycling.

For this reason, Construction Products Europe organised this workshop in order to give the attendants a full picture of these projects and their latest news.
