European Mortar Summit 2015

The event, a biennial gathering of the manufacturers of mortars, plaster & renders, adhesives, screeds and ETICS to exchange views on topical subjects and future trends, was held on May, 21 – 22, in Lisboa, Portugal.
European Mortar Summit 2015 was initiated by European Mortar Industry Organisation (EMO) and first hosted 2011 in Paris, followed by European Mortar Summit 2013 in Barcelona.
For the first time the European Mortar Summit 2015 hosted both a technical and business conference and a high level congress that were held on two consecutive days.
The conference on Thursday 21 May was open to all technical and business experts to present recent technological and product developments as well as market trends and challenges.
Despite the tight schedule of presentations speakers and participants took the opportunity to exchange and network last but not least at the gala dinner at the historic and impressive venue Casa do Alentejo.
The congress on Friday 22 May with selected speakers was dedicated to the very topical main theme “Moving towards a Circular Economy”.
The invited speakers approached and explored the subject from different angles, outlining the challenges and opportunities but also substantiating their views and messages with good examples.
The arguments and examples broadened the perspective of the audience and made obvious that it requires a co-operation between all concerned industry sectors to tackle the challenges and exploit the opportunities the Circular Economy holds for the construction sector.
To sum up, some conclusions can be extracted from the event: mortar industry plays an important role both in technical and sustainable demands; and moving towards circular economy as mortar business means an efficient use of resources, durable solutions, a clean production and an optimized logistics.
The record breaking number of 135 participants and 16 partners (exhibitors and sponsors) already indicated that the new concept of the Summit was well received.
Finally the good atmosphere during both Summit days and the positive first reactions from speakers, participants and partners are proof of the success of the European Mortar Summit 2015.
