Status of Demolition Industry in India:

India is a developing country and there is much need of infrastructure development, for this we need to demolish the existing old structures and reconstruct the structures. Smart city concept is at peak in India and in smart city concept government is providing affordable housing and focusing on urban development. For all this, proper demolition of old structure is required. There are many old structures present in cities like MUMBAI, CHENNAI, NEW DELHI etc; which have lost their life span and situated in congested areas where proper implementation of demolition technique is required. So, need of demolition is very high in future.

The construction industry will be the largest employer in India and employ more than 75 million people. It is also estimated that by 2025 the investment level for construction projects in India will reach US $7.5 trillion.

Scope of Recycling in India:

India reports that estimated waste generation during construction/demolition is 5000 Tons per day from each major city. The highest contribution to waste generation is due to demolition of buildings.

With the global concern of conservation of energy and natural resources, there is urgent need of implementing C & D waste management strategies through technological and design solutions of adoptability, deconstruction, recycling and reusing and effective formation of legislative, administrative and monitoring framework for implementation of the same.

IDA has taken the lead and working on a guideline for “Recycling, use and management of the C&D waste”.
