“Innovation in Construction” for the sustainable competitiveness of the construction sector and its enterprises

The European Commission organised this one-day conference on October 21st, 2013, in Brussels.
The Conference brought together participants representing the Construction Industry and its professions, Member States and Commission services.
Its presentations and speeches should be seen in the context of the work being done by the High Level Strategic Forum and Thematic Groups created under the Action Plan of the Communication “Strategy for the sustainable competitiveness of the construction sector and its enterprises”.
The Conference examined what innovative approaches already exist or are needed to help the construction industry to achieve greater sustainable competitiveness through new working practices in the renovation domain, in particular.
Programme
The conference had an opening session with the title “What does Innovation mean for the Construction sector?”, and counted with the participation of Mr Antti Peltomäki, Deputy Director-General of the Enterprise and Industry Directorate-General.
After the plenary session, conference was developed in three parallel sessions:
- Dialogue between actors – towards common reference frameworks in construction.
- Educating the whole value chain – making construction a desired profession.
- Promoting life-cycle thinking.
EDA was invited by the European Commission to participate on the conference, and gave a presentation with the title “Developing an economy on C&D waste”, as part of the session called “Promoting life-cycle thinking“.
In the closing plenary session the participants debated about “How could Innovation foster structural change in the sector?”.
