The main European organizations representing the construction sector have signed the joint statement from the construction industry to combat the effects to Covid-19. The European Demolition Association, EDA, is one of these entities.
These entities reiterate its commitment to supporting public authorities, as well as its dedication to its most fundamental asset, the workers’ wellbeing.
The pandemic is not only a health emergency, but also a difficult situation from an economic and industrial point of view. In fact, it has the potential of exhausting companies’ cash flow and cripple the construction value-chain for years to come.
In some countries, it is implementing different measures to allow the continuation of construction activities and ensure the health and safety of workers. However, in others Member States are limiting economic activities to those considered as “essential”.
The Construction sector provides some of the essential services, such as maintenance of critical infrastructure, electricity and gas, or supply systems for buildings and hospitals.
Therefore, the European construction sector calls for urgent action to protect workers’ health, implement measures to allow the efficient internal market, carry out massive support and stimulus programmes and to ease the administrative burden.
Short, medium and long-term measures to prevent the expected economic recession from becoming a meltdown of historic proportions with far-reaching social consequences.
