Safety First: EDA’s motto to deal with the pandemic

The European Demolition Association, EDA, has issued a statement addressed to Public Authorities, to customers, stakeholders and to the construction industry, including the activities of demolition, decontamination and recycling.

Despite the different response to this pandemic in Europe, EDA and its National Associations encourage the construction industry to follow all the recommendations and implement the protective measures proposed by health organizations, most specially those coming from the national or regional authorities.

Therefore, EDA recommends that safety should come first: Safety First; to protect the health of the workers and their families, following the advice of Public Authorities, to prevent the spread of the disease.

It is clear that the immediate suspension of operations for an unknow period will have a great impact, in many ways: social, economic, delays, etc. However, if the activities don’t stop, the risk is the health.

EDA and national associations are asking the construction industry, developers and other stakeholders, who hire the companies, to open and negotiate new delivery dates, without penalties for this transitional period.

For this reason, the entities encourage the European Commission and the Member States to directly support to the employers, so they can temporarily suspend operations, protect their workers and stay alive for the future.
