The European Commission organized the sixth Thematic Group 3 ”Sustainable use of natural resources” of the Commission’s “Construction 2020” Action Plan, held in November 23, in Brussels.
This is part of the strategy for the sustainable competitiveness of the construction sector and its enterprises as detailed in the Communication COM(2012) 433 which has identified the Roadmap to a Resource-Efficient Europe as a starting point for the work on Sustainable use of natural resources.
It underlines the impact of construction on natural resources, energy, the environment and climate change. More recently, the Communication COM(2016) 860 “Clean Energy For All Europeans” in its ANNEX “Accelerating clean energy in buildings” treats buildings as an essential part of Europe’s clean energy transition.
The Thematic Group 3 addresses actions for improvements in construction activities and construction works to contribute to a competitive construction sector and to the development of a resource and energy efficient building stock, with all new buildings being near zero energy consumers and materials resource-efficient.
EDA has participated in different meetings of this Thematic Group 3, and in this time, although EDA planned to attend, the Secretariat could not participate in the meeting.
