The European Demolition Association, EDA, celebrated this meeting on October 27, 2016, at the Headquarters of the Belgian Demolition Association, CASO, in Brussels, Belgium.

Under the topic “The next 10 years”, more than 40 attendants discussed about where the demolition industry in Europe is going and how will be the future.

The meeting had two round tables, with a panel of experts who introduced the topics, following for the high participation of the attendants, who shared interesting ideas.

The first round table was formed by the topics covered were how are the technical requirements changing the way in which demolition is done, what kind of equipment does the demolition industry need, how are the business models changing for construction and demolition activities and ownership vs rental (how to combine both options them on a sustainable way for the industry).

The speakers were Mr. Patrick Frye, from CARDEM, Mr. Michel Petitjean, from ERA, and Mr. Igor Kecskés-Maconkai, from RIV.

After the coffe break, where the participants had time for networking and to exchange experiences and knowledge, the second round table took place with the participation, as speakers, of Mr. Janne Salonen, from FDA and Rolf Gehring, from EFBWW.

The following questions were present: how to demolish systems and combination of several layers of construction materials? What level of recycling can be achieved in demolition activities? Should the owner of the space/infrastructure pay for everything? What is the responsibility of the construction material producers and the Public Authorities, and  what are the challenges for the health and safety of the workers and the general public with the new scenarios that will come for the demolition activites?

After this, the EDA Think tank 2016 finished with a light luch.
