Last June 26, the kick-off meeting for this new project was held in Brussels, Belgium, with the presence of the European Demolition Association, EDA.

Through the General Secretary of VERAS, Mr. Edwin Zoontjes, the President of CASO, Mr. Johan D’Hooghe and the General Secretary of EDA, Mr. Jose Blanco, the European Demolition Association was present in the meeting.

This new project has been launched by DG GROW to develop a ‘Common EU Construction and Demolition Waste Management Protocol’, that means a new initiative within the framework of the Construction 2020 Governance Structure – TG 3.

This kick-off meeting has marked the start of a project in which the European Commission will develop a concrete deliverable in a true tripartite work structure, where industry and national governments are expected to concretely contribute to the development of the final deliverable.

Overall aims of the project:

  • A common set of technical, environmental and managerial principles
  • Applicable in the entire EU
  • Based on the highest common standards in each stage of the waste management chain that would be recognised in all Member States

The project will have different meetings and topics until June 30, 2016, and the next one will be in October 1 about “Waste Generation”.
