During the 2015 EDA Annual Convention, on Thursday, June 11 th, members of HISER project will present preliminary conclusions and contrast with the first-hand experience of the participants in the activity.

HISER “Holistic Innovative Solutions for an  Efficient Recycling and Recovery of Valuable Raw Materials from Complex Construction and Demolition Waste” project has foreseen the development of methodological solutions and tools facilitating the data gathering and processing on types, qualities and quantities of building waste materials coming from demolition and refurbishment works.

Namely, a smart BIM (Building Information Modelling) software tool, allowing the modelling of an existing building with no digital representation, will support the decision making in the planning of (onsite sorting, management of subsequent waste materials, etc.) activities, fostering efficient selective demolition and automatically generating relevant documents such as waste audits, equipment and personnel scheduling, etc.

Complementarily, an innovative supply chain tracking system will provide more accurate information on waste materials coming from those works and following processes, allowing synergic quality assurance throughout the whole supply chain, from waste to recycled products.

The identification and prioritization of existing technical and non-technical gaps in current demolition and refurbishment practices in buildings, regarding issues such as methodologies and accurateness of current audits, legal regional/local requirements on compulsory onsite sorting and paperwork, availability of recycling infrastructure, etc., will support the development of the harmonized methodological solutions supporting the schemes of the aforementioned tools.

For the identification of those gaps, involvement of demolition/refurbishment companies, which are being interviewed by HISER members across Europe, is key.

HISER project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under grant agreement No. 642085.

HISER is coordinated by TECNALIA.

If any person who is already registered in the EDA 2015 Annual Convention wants to participate in the workshop, please contact EDA Secretariat.
