- Up to 6 EDA members were given an award in the contest
After being held online last year due to COVID-19, the World Demolition Summit took place on-site in Chicago, USA the past October 21. It was organised by Demolition & Recycling and the US National Demolition Association, with the support of EDA.
Participants could attend presentations, networking sessions and speeches given by speakers from the host country and also from companies outside the USA, as the Jet Demolition of South Africa’s managing director Joe Brinkmann or UK contractor Safedem’s William Sinclair. Representing EDA’s hazardous materials working group we counted on Patrick Grandchamp.
Apart from the presentations, a remarkable bit in the event was the World Demolition Awards 2021. There were up to 14 different categories, an also a ‘Best of the Best’ prize, that was given this year to Safedem for its demolition of the Mina Plaza building in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Safedem also won the ‘Explosive demolition’ award.
Members of EDA were participating in almost all the categories, and in six of them were proclaimed winners. In the category ‘Civils’, the award went to Mainline Demolition; in ‘New entrant’, the winner was Volgaspetsstroy. Also, in ‘ Contract of the Year over $1 million’ the winner was Priestly Demolition, and the ‘Manufacturer Innovation, Plant and Equipment’ award was given to Kocurek Excavators. Finally, the ‘Manufacturer Innovation, Tools and Attachments’ award was given to Caterpillar.
