Recycling Equipment for Construction and Demolition
Introduction
The 21st century imagines people with enormous ecological challenges. The rapidly increasing consumption of natural raw materials presents the need for waste recycling. The consumption of resources will grow to 190 billion tonnes by 2060, and the annual waste generation is expected to increase by 70% by 2050.
The circular economy is the central approach to reshaping the current linear social and economic system. This will avoid negative environmental impacts, increase the gross national product and additionally create countless new jobs.
The EU Commission presented the European Green Deal in 2019, which contains an ambitious package of measures for a comprehensive sustainable change in Europe. One of the most important building blocks of the European Green Deal is the Circular Economy Action Plan (2020). With the Communication “Making Sustainable Products to the Standard”, the Commission presented a comprehensive package of measures on the circular economy on 30.3.2022 – with the aim of raising the Circular Material Use Rate (CMU) significantly from the current 12.8% (EU-27; 2020).
With this guide, EDA would like to contribute to supporting the circular economy in the construction sector; the use of the right equipment and machinery on the construction site is shown so that the separation of materials into pure material flows is facilitated or made possible.
