Additional equipment for preparing the recycling operation

From demolition, the material must be prepared for recycling. This starts in advance, screening the complete demolition site and seeing what can be reused. Copper piping, windows, etc. can be taken out in advance for reuse.

Then the material needs to be prepared for recycling by using additional equipment, such as the ones described in the tables below.

Depending on the area, there can be a lot of lightweight material mixed in with the demolished material. To collect this there hasn’t really been any other solution than collecting it more or less manually.

A hydraulic Recycling Vacuum Bucket (HRVB) is used to vacuum the lightweight material from the other material, moving the bucket over the area to be cleaned.

It is also possible to connect a hose to the bucket to be used manually if the lightweight material is in some restricted area without bucket reach.

Granulators are designed for the volume reduction and sizing of various materials. To suit different applications and improve the efficiency of granulating different materials, a selection of different rotor configurations are available.

This machine has various components. Output product size is controlled by means of a changeable sizing screen. A selection of screen sizes are available in the market. The rotor handles the harshest grades of material and provides consistent performance. And sound-proof enclosures reduce granulator noise levels considerably, enabling the machine to be operated in a broad range of applications where noise pollution may be a concern.

A wide variety of applications include plastic film, PVC pipes, paper, e-waste, rubber, cables, plastic drums, and plastic bottles.

Balers reduce the volume of bulky waste materials. After compression, the material is bundled into a bale, which is easy to store and handle.

The benefits are obvious: money is saved for waste collection, as well as time, space and manpower, improving the hygiene and tidiness of your working place at the same time.

Baling press machines are compressing machines that are usually driven by a hydraulic system. Normally a hydraulic baling machine is comprised of three major parts which are the machine body frame, the electric system and the hydraulic system.

There are two basic types of baling presses:

  • Vertical baler press
  • Horizontal baler press

It can serve the baling of ferrous or non-ferrous scrap in all forms. Whatever paper and cardboard waste, plastic packaging materials like PET bottles, plastic films, tires, used clothes, metal chips waste, wood shavings, sawdust, cotton, plant and animal fiber, or hay and straw.

Rotary Shear is a crushing equipment specially designed to treat material of a certain volume such as Scrap Tires, even with steel heels, or Waste of Electric and Electronic Equipment (WEEE).

The two rotating cutting shafts that make up the rotary shear are driven by the individual gearboxes in opposite directions in order to trap waste and cut the input material, crushing it both lengthwise and transversely thanks to the configuration of the cutting chamber. The disc blades mounted on the cutting shafts have hooks that help to grip the input material for further shredding.

According to the particularities of the introduced residues and the needs, the size of the cut can be determined according to the number of blades, the width of these and the number of teeth each of the discs has.

It is a machine that incorporates a diamond cutting blade with high rotation speeds which allows a wide range of sawing applications. Among these, within the scope of this document, the most important ones are the cutting tasks prior to the recycling works. It is a very complementary machine with the recycling equipment, such as crushers, as it reduces the size of bulky materials, making this way transport possible in complicated areas and much easier in general, significantly reducing the transport cost, and reducing the recycling time and wear on the recycling equipment.

It can cut all types of material: GRP (as used in wind turbine blades, pipes…),  composite material, aircraft, wood, plastics, foil, aluminum, steel, rock, concrete, railway (rails & sleepers), etc.

It has a very robust design, high-speed motor, safety cover and dust suppression system. Additionally, it can be fitted with a hydraulic rotation unit for more flexibility.

Moreover, this equipment fits all carrier sizes starting from the lightest demolition robots.

Hydraulic shears used in demolition are a very powerful, versatile tool. This excavator attachment can cut steel components into handleable pieces and is an indispensable tool, to cut reinforced concrete into pieces, that can be fed into crushers.

Demolition shears are also very helpful in selectively picking materials for sustainable materials management and recycling efforts.

There are different types of hydraulic shears used in different applications such as for crushing, cutting or pulverizing:

  • Crushing Shear Jaws
  • Cutting Shear Jaws
  • Pulverizing Shear Jaws
  • Hydraulic Mini Shears

Demolition contractors often use a multi-processor with a combination set of jaws to either rip through steel, hammer or blast through concrete.

A trommel screen, also known as a rotary screen, is a mechanical screening machine used to separate different materials.

It consists of a perforated cylindrical drum that is normally elevated at an angle at the feed end. Physical size separation is achieved as the feed material spirals down the rotating drum, where the undersized material smaller than the screen apertures passes through the screen, while the oversized material exits at the other end of the drum.

It can be used –and sometimes is – in demolition sites, however, in general, trommel screens are not often used in recycling C&D due to low capacity and the limitation to split.
